All of these lines across my face - tell you the story of who I am - so many stories of where I've been - and how I got to where I am - but these stories don't mean anything - when you've got no one to tell them to - it's true - I was made for you. B. Carlile

For auld lang syne, my dear…

“Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve. Middle age is when you're forced to.” ~Bill Vaughn

“But I don’t do either. I’m special.” ~Bare, my husband

“Yes, you are special.” ~Me

I have never made a New Year’s resolution. Why, because I do not want to fail, ever.  Perfection is good at times, not so much at others.

If I were to have resolutions, they always seemed so boring and predictable…lose weight, be consistent, keep in touch with others better, pay off debt.  Don’t get me wrong. These are all good things, but something about putting them down in writing.  But not this year, maybe because I’m an official grown-up now—I’m 30 and, I’ve had the same professional job for a year.

So here they are—in print and here’s to 2012.  May it be a year worth living!!

  1. Lose weight and Be More Active—the good ‘ole lose weight one. But this summer I want to hike in Montana and Yellowstone without feeling like my chest is going to explode at any moment. And, I only put a swimsuit on once last year, but we are planning to see the beach this summer!
  2. Journal—handwritten journals. As a child/teenager I was a diligent “journaler” but starting in college I became “too busy” and only do when I remember…mostly when I’m really anxious or upset about life!  My Mama Jean still gives me a journal each year for Christmas and I plan to start filling them up again.
  3. Learn to sew/smock and fly-fish
  4. Become a better photographer
  5. Start being the wife, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, friend, coworker I want to become.
  6. Volunteer
  7. Travel and delight in the beauty around me.
  8. Read/Finish several Classics—The Scarlet Letter, Jane Erye, Little Women.
  9. Be gracious—with my time, money, self
  10. Grow spiritually

“Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man.” ~Benjamin Franklin
